Analysis on iPhone X Features:
Design: A Bold New Look
iPhone X comes with an all-new design with its nearly edge-to-edge all screen display. To be frank, it is not all screens – there is a notch at the top for the front-facing camera and earpiece. It is made of glass & steel. Front & back part of the phone is made of glass which is – according to Apple – the most durable glass ever in a smartphone. The steel part is made of Surgical‑grade stainless steel. The glass design is introduced to enabling the wireless charging.
All these were enclosed at a microscopic level to make it water & dust resistant. A seven-layer ink process allows for precise hues and opacity. Also, a reflective optical layer enhances the colors. An oleophobic coating will let you wipe off smudges and fingerprints quickly.
Display: Super Retina with HDR
iPhone X has an all‑new 5.8”Super Retina screen. It is the first ever iPhone with OLED display with HDR support. The size of the phone fills the hand, and the Super Retina screen dazzles the eyes with 2.7 million pixels.
With 458 PPI, it is the highest pixel density ever in an iPhone. The resolution of iPhone X is (2436 x 1125) with high brightness, accurate & stunning colors, true blacks, and a 1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio.
iPhone X has a true High Dynamic Range (HDR) display. Now you can watch videos in Dolby Vision and HDR10. Your HDR photos will look even more amazing & you’ll be able to watch the HDR titles from iTunes, Netflix, and more.
The True Tone technology has been used for a more comfortable viewing experience. This technology uses an advanced six‑channel ambient light sensor to subtly adjust the white balance on the screen to match the color temperature of the light around you. It reduces eyestrain & makes the images on your display look as natural as on a printed page.
The display employs new folding and circuit stacking technology to precisely follow the curves of the elegantly rounded corners. It makes possible for the OLED panel to follow the curves of the device to the farthest reaches of the corners. This phone also uses a process called subpixel anti-aliasing to tune individual pixels for smooth, distortion-free edges. It works the same way across the entire iOS system.
There is no home button, also first ever in an iPhone. You just have to swipe up from the bottom to go to the Home screen. Hand gestures & multitouch makes the navigation natural and intuitive. There is also tap to wake the display, 3D Touch & True Tone.
Face ID is a robust and secure authentication system that’s even more convenient than the Touch ID. It makes unlocking and paying easy, fast, & intuitive. The technology is so reliable that you can check out with just a glance. You can also use Apple Pay with this.
So now your face is your password & you can unlock your iPhone X with your face. Face ID is so intelligent that it can adapt to your face, such as if you grow a beard or wear a pair of glasses. It can work in day or night.
Face ID has a simple setup process where you move your face in a circular motion until it learns your face. Face ID is secure against spoofs such as a photo or a mask of someone’s face with the Facial Mapping technology. It is so smart that it only works when you want it to. It unlocks your iPhone X only when you look at the device directly with your eyes open. That means Face ID can also reveal your notifications and messages, keep the screen lit when you’re reading something, or lower the volume of an alarm or ringer.
The TrueDepth camera does all these works with its sensors. It projects more than 30,000 invisible dots & then and analyze them to create a precise depth map of your face. The A11 Bionic chip uses machine learning to recognize the depth map of your face as well as any changes in your appearance. Your face data is protected by the A11 chip in a secure enclave locally on your phone. That means, it will be an on-device processing & will not be uploaded to the cloud.
There are 1 in 50,000 chances that the Touch ID can be compromised. With Face ID, it’s 1 in 1,000,000. So there is no Touch ID on iPhone X as expected.
A11 Bionic Chip
Apple always wants the faster CPU with unprecedented power. Meet the new A11 Bionic chip which is both powerful and intelligent. It has a built-in neural engine to process facial recognition. A11 has a superhuman intelligence with machine learning algorithms.
According to Apple, it is the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone. The neural engine is capable of up to 600 billion operations per second. A neural engine is a hardware which is built for analyzing machine learning, a type of artificial intelligence that enables computers to learn from observation. Machine learning lets the Face ID adapt to physical changes in your appearance over time through Adaptive Recognition.
With six cores and 4.3 billion transistors, A11 Bionic has four efficiency cores that are up to 70 percent faster than the previous A10 Fusion chip, and two performance cores (neural engine) that are up to 25 percent faster. The CPU can even harness all six cores simultaneously when you need a turbo boost. The neural engine in the A11 Bionic chip is a dual-core & it recognizes people, places, and objects. It is the driving force behind innovative new features of iPhone X like Face ID and Animoji.
The new Apple‑designed three‑core GPU named Metal 2 is up to 30 percent faster than the A10 Fusion.
This Apple-designed graphics software will let the developers build console‑style games. The Core ML will enable the developers to integrate machine learning into their apps. The GPU in the A11 Bionic chip is optimized for these new, immersive 3D games and AR experiences.
New iOS11 Supports Augmented Reality
A groundbreaking iOS is needed for a groundbreaking iPhone. A phone that’s all screen required an entirely rethought OS with new capabilities and gestures.
That’s why the new iOS11 will be the driving force of the iPhone X. It is mainly designed for iPhone X to pay friends in Messages, or experience mind-blowing AR games & apps. Yes, augmented reality will be a daily thing with the new iOS. The A11 Bionic chip powers extraordinary augmented reality experiences in games and apps on the world’s largest platform for augmented reality.
With the new OS, let Siri be your translator. And discover new music with friends in Apple Music.
The iOS11 is set to launch on 19th September.
Camera: Faster & Better Performance
iPhone X comes with dual 12MP cameras. With the larger and faster 12MP sensor the art of photography is simplified. There is a new color filter which enables deeper pixels. Both rear cameras have optical image stabilization (OIS) and fast lenses for outstanding photos and videos even in low light.
The wide-angle camera, telephoto camera & OIS are described below-
Wide-Angle Camera: It is a ƒ/1.8 camera with six-element lens, optical image stabilization (OIS), & a faster 12MP sensor.
Telephoto Camera: It is a powerful ƒ/2.4 camera which used a state-of-the-art seven-magnet solution to include a second OIS system. Together the two cameras enable optical zoom to bring you closer to your subject & deliver amazing shots with Portrait mode.
Dual OIS: One of the hardest things in photography is getting great photos and videos in low light. OIS (optical image stabilization) makes images shine in little light. OIS in both rear cameras makes it effortless.
So, together the wide-angle and telephoto cameras on iPhone X enable optical zoom, as well as the digital zoom of up to 10x for photos and 6x for videos.
This dual camera also comes with new filters, better flash & a new image format. The next-generation HEIF compression technology lets you take new photos with the same quality as before at half the file size.
Video & Other Image Options
iPhone X will let you shoot phenomenal videos. There is an Apple‑designed video encoder which will perform real-time image processing for the optimal quality. With the new HEVC compression, you’ll get the same video quality as before at half the file size.
You can transform a Live Photo you love into a fun video loop. Now you can make it bounce back and forth like the Instagram. You could also turn fireworks into bright streaks across the sky with a beautiful long exposure effect. There are some new filters for more natural skin tones or to give your portrait a classic look.
The Slow Sync flash combines a slow shutter speed with a short strobe pulse. It’s beneficial in low light when you want a brighter foreground subject with a properly exposed background. And the Quad-LED True Tone flash delivers illumination that’s up to two times more uniform. It helps to reduce hot spots.
This iPhone can shoot 4K video up to 60 fps & Slo-mo1080p video up to 240 fps. It can also shoot time‑lapse video. Advanced video stabilization uses a new, larger sensor and the powerful ISP to stabilize everything you’re shooting. The optical image stabilization is designed to reduce motion blur and handshake in low-light videos. So your movies look steady even if your hand isn’t.
iPhone X has a front-facing camera named TrueDepth camera. It allows for Portrait Mode selfies with Portrait Lighting which produces impressive studio‑quality lighting effects.
The front notch positioned above the display is called TrueDepth camera area. It is a tiny space which houses some of the most sophisticated technology Apple has ever developed. It includes an infrared camera, flood illuminator, front camera, ambient light sensor, dot projector, and microphone.
The TrueDepth camera system allows you to take amazing photos and enables Face ID. The camera system is composed of multiple innovative & influential technologies working with A11 Bionic together in real time. It uses a detailed depth map of your face to recognize you in an instant. It can create beautiful selfies with sharp foregrounds and artfully blurred backgrounds. The TrueDepth camera also takes selfies with Portrait mode and creates Animoji.
Just take a look at some sensors of TrueDepth camera-
Dot Projector: To read your face pattern, it projects dots & creates a map of your face. More than 30,000 invisible dots are projected onto your face to build your unique facial map.
Infrared Camera: The infrared camera reads the dot pattern, captures an infrared image & sends the data to the secure enclave in the A11 Bionic chip to confirm a match.
Flood Illuminator: Invisible infrared light helps identify your face even when it’s dark.
Animoji or Animated Emoji
Animoji or Animated Emoji is a great feature for iPhone X. Making Animoji is possible because of the TrueDepth camera. The TrueDepth camera works with the A11 Bionic chip to analyze more than 50 different muscle movements to mirror your expressions in 12 Animoji.
It can reveal your inner panda, pig, or robot. Animoji can be used in the Messages app. There’s a dozen to choose from, such as a robot, monkey, cat, dog, and fish.
Battery: Wireless & Fast Charging
Like the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, the iPhone X supports wireless charging based on Qi standard. Apple has always intended iPhone to be free from charging cables and headphone cords. It wanted a truly wireless device. With a glass back and an embedded wireless charging system, iPhone X is designed for a wireless future.
Apple also wanted people to enjoy the convenience of wireless charging anywhere. So iPhone X works with Qi wireless chargers commonly found in hotels, cafes, airports, and cars. The Qi charging system allows you to simply set the iPhone X down to charge it up. Belkin and Mophie have also developed two new wireless chargers designed for the iPhone X.
Apple is designing a new wireless charging accessory that will charge the iPhone 8/iPhone 8 Plus/iPhone X and the Apple Watch Series 3. It’s called AirPower, and it will be launch in next year. The elegant, ultrathin new AirPower mat will let you charge multiple devices wirelessly, without requiring them to be fixed in one spot. Just lay up to three compatible devices — like the latest iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods — anywhere on its surface to charge them simultaneously.
A11 Bionic chip manages its enormous power intelligently by directing tasks between the performance and efficiency cores. So the things you do most often — like texting and browsing the web — happen quickly while using less energy. With a custom battery design & 2,716 mAh power, iPhone X will last up to two hours longer than iPhone 7.
There are many other features in the new iPhone X. Double tap on the side button or say “Hey Siri” to activate Siri. To see the multitasking screen, just swipe up from the bottom and pause for a second.
There is a new app called Clips. Clips is a free app that lets you make fun, shareable videos with text, effects, graphics, and more. The Selfie Scenes on iPhone X will make Clips even more fun. It will use the TrueDepth camera to immerse you in 360-degree animated landscapes.
iPhone X is precision-engineered at the microscopic level to protect against water, splashes, and dust. It was tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529. Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions, and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Please, do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone. A liquid damage will not cover the warranty.
iPhone X will be available in Space Gray and Silver color.
iPhone X is now available in the market with the 64 GB and 256 GB memory along with 3 GB RAM. The price for the 64 GB will be $999, and the 256 GB will be $1,149.
As for the new accessories, Mophie Wireless Charging Base will be available at $59.95. And the AirPods will be at $159.00. The price for the AirPower mat is yet to reveal; it will come in the market in 2018.
“One of the ways that I believe people express their appreciation to the rest of humanity is to make something wonderful and put it out there.” — Steve Jobs.
After ten years of iPhone, it only fits that Apple is here to reveal a product that will set the path for technology for the next decade. You will also agree with this opinion after reviewing the iPhone X features. We can now safely say that this is the future of smartphone. And obviously, it is the top phone of 2017.
